In cooperation with colleges and local institutions, we already presented big and small masterpieces from Fennoscandia, Austria, Great Britain, France, Canada, the Benelux countries, Spain, Sweden, Latin America, Israel, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Greece, Iran, Turkey, the Philippines, Brazil, Italy, the USA as well as Portugal. In 2024, the thematic focus will be flight and expulsion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Retrospective\/Homage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In special festival years, exground filmfest dedicates a program to a specific director\u2019s work. These compact and exquisite screenings already presented directors as Abel Ferrara, Michael Haneke, Mike Figgis, Claire Denis, David Cronenberg, Julio M\u00e9dem, Roy Andersson, Eyal Sivan and an homage to German actor and director Ulli Lommel and a retrospective of films by Teresa Villaverde, among others.<\/p>\n<h1><strong>Competitions<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>exground filmfest\u2019s contest programs have become an important forum for numerous promising young filmmakers \u2013 not least due to the huge audience interest in works off the cinema mainstream. At exground filmfest 37, cash prizes and non-cash prizes of almost EUR 19,000 will be awarded.<\/p>\n<p><strong>German Feature Film Competition &#8220;DAS BRETT&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The EUR 1,500 prize for the best film in the Made in Germany series was awarded in the first few years by a jury of prisoners from Wiesbaden Prison; as this jury has unfortunaley been cancelled since 2020 for a variety of reasons, the audience will once again decide on the winning film and the prize money donated by us, which has now been increased to EUR 3,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>German Short Film Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the traditional highlights and audience hits, <u>a n<\/u>ationwide contest for the best German short film, endowed with EUR 6,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>International Short Film Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A professional jury will hand out the award for the best international short film, endowed with EUR 2,000.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wiesbaden-Special \u2013 Short Film Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contest for short films by Wiesbaden production companies or local directors, audience award endowed with EUR 500.<\/p>\n<p><strong>youth days \u2013 International Youth Film Competition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A youth jury will award the best international feature film from the youth days program with EUR 2,500 \u2013 and the best international youth days short film with EUR 500.
