An intimate portrait of Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva, one of the world’s most influential political figures, chronicling his extraordinary path to regaining Brazil’s presidency in 2022 after a 19-month imprisonment. With unprecedented access to Lula da Silva and his closest advisors, Oliver Stone sheds new light on the charismatic politician in a series of unfiltered interviews and reveals the inside story of “Operation Car Wash” with the hacker and the “Snowden Files” journalist whose reporting led to Lula’s release from prison.
Timely and compelling, the film is a cautionary tale of the increasing danger lawfare poses to democracies around the world and an examination of one of the great political comeback stories of our time.
“Oliver Stone chronicles the dramatic rise, fall and rise again of Brazil’s current President.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
Oliver Stone has been a fixture in the industry for almost 40 years. He is a director, screenwriter, producer and bestselling author. He won his first Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for MIDNIGHT EXPRESS (1978) and his second and third Oscars for Best Director for PLATOON (1986) and BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY (1989).
Rob Wilson fell in love with documentary filmmaking when he worked on Oliver Stone’s portrait of Fidel Castro, COMANDANTE, in 2003. Soon after, he produced documentaries for Paramount about legendary directors John Ford and Howard Hawks and for Disney about the planning and construction of Disneyland.
