Any resemblance to a suspected murderer is not accidental. A man kills his entire family, disappears into thin air and flees abroad, where he lives a life of leisure. Inspired by one of the most notorious French news stories of recent years, PLASTIC GUNS is a highly amusing theatre of cruelty, carried by an energetic cast. There’s a criminal profiler, as admired as he is phlegmatic; a duo of amateur female web investigators who go wild during their pilgrimage to the scene of the crime; a misogynistic nobody who is mistaken for the murderer on his way to take part in a country dance competition…
After BLOODY ORANGES, Jean-Christophe Meurisse is back in the exground filmfest program with a black comedy. Based on a real case, he takes a satirical look at the true crime and serial killer genre. A certain tradition of French comedy enhanced by macabre humour.
After training as an actor, Jean-Christophe Meurisse founded and directed the theater group “Chiens de Navarre” in 2005. In 2013, he directed the medium-length film IL EST DES NÔTRES, which won awards and critical acclaim. He went on to direct several feature films: APNÉE (Critics’ Week, Cannes 2016), BLOODY ORANGES (Midnight Screening, Cannes 2021) and finally PLASTIC GUNS (Directors’ Fortnight 2024). With his film APNÉE, he won the 2016 Jury Prize for Best Director at the International Cult Film Festival in Trouville-sur-Mer in France.
Filmography (selection): 2016 APNÉE, 2021 BLOODY ORANGES, 2024 PLASTIC GUNS
