Florence believes she has met the love of her life in David, and now plans to introduce him to her father Guillaume. However, David doesn’t show up alone to their lunch in the remote restaurant “Le Deuxième Acte” – it seems he himself isn’t drawn to Florence and instead wishes to throw her into the arms of his friend Willy, whom he has instructed accordingly before the meet-up.

So much for the film’s departure point. But those familiar with Quentin Dupieux’ bizarre work will suspect that the plot with take at least a few twists and turns. The surrealist loves to incorporate meta-layers, surprise his audience with original ideas and to address them directly by breaking the fourth wall. At the same time, the film is also “very, very funny”, as lead actress Léa Seydoux can attest.

Quentin Dupieux, born in 1974, is a French filmmaker and musician. He became known under his DJ name “Mr Oizo”. His electro-house track “Flat Beat” and the accompanying music video with the yellow plush toy dubbed “Flat Eric” were a Europe-wide hit in 1999. He not only writes the scripts for his films on his own, he also edits them and does the camerawork for them as well. Of course, he also writes the music for many of his films. His absurd stories regularly celebrate their world premieres at major festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice and Sundance.
