A mind-boggling shocker from Austria that aims to settle the score with the super-rich of this world. Together with their children, Viktoria and Amon Maynard lead nearly perfect lives. They are successful in the business world and wealthy beyond comprehension. To let off steam, Amon goes hunting, though he doesn’t shoot animals – instead, he prefers to stalk arbitrary humans in a game of life and death. To achieve the proper work-life balance, of course. This mindset puts Amon in the company of numerous high-society sociopaths like Donald Trump, who once boasted: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?”
“A must-see movie: a social satire in one piece, a Machiavellian family portrait.” (IndieWire)
“Ruthless Austrian satire takes aim at the superrich, treating capitalism as a most dangerous game.” (Variety; Peter Debruge)
Directorial duo Daniel Hoesl, born in 1982 in St. Pölten/Austria, and Julia Niemann, born in 1987 in Deggendorf/Germany, met through Hoesl’s debut feature film SOLDATE JEANNETTE, which celebrated its premiere in 2013 at Sundance Film Festival and won the Tiger Award at International Film Festival Rotterdam. This was followed by WINWIN, a satire about investment banking, and DAVOS, a documentary about the World Economic Forum. Their films have been screened around the world and honoured with multiple awards. Aside from directing, the two write screenplays and assume production roles, both in their joint projects and on their own. Their new feature film VENI VIDI VICI premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2024.
Filmography (together; selection): 2016 WINWIN, 2020 DAVOS, 2024 VENI VIDI VICI
