Italy/Switzerland 2020 80 min Italian original version with German and English subtitles

by Michele Pennetta

Script: Michele Pennetta, Arthur Brügger, Pietro Passarini, DoP: Paolo Ferrari, Editors: Damian Plandolit, Orsola Valenti, Production: Close Up Films, Rai Cinema, Producers: Joëlle Bertossa, Flavia Zanon, with: Oscar, Roberto and Marco Prestifilippo, Stanley Abhulimen, Blessed Idahosa

Oscar and his brother toil away as scrap collectors with their dad, who rewards them with harsh words. Stanley and Blessed came across the sea to Sicily seeking refuge. They have precarity in common, in a region decimated by structural change and capitalism. At the end of this intimate study, the fragile documentary attitude is set aside to unite Oscar and Stanley for one enigmatic moment of holy silence.

“It’s the tenderness with which the filmmakers approach their protagonists at such moments, that slowly reveal the deeper layers of their story. Where we discover, above all, a deeply human sadness. It is that feeling which, together with the beauty of their faces, their bodies and their land, raises IL MIO CORPO to the point where Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, played during the end credits, feels earned.” (
