A young man is found murdered in a tiny Kazakh village. Detective Bekzat is assigned to the case and promptly provided with a perpetrator by his “higher-ups”: mentally handicapped Pekuar. Criminals in these parts are “caught” through corruption, torture and arbitrary methods. When Bekzat moves to close the case, young journalist Ariana nixes his plans and triggers a collapse of the corrupt system in this black tragicomedy.

Adilkhan Yerzhanov, born in Dzhezkazgan/Kazakhstan in 1982, studied film directing at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts up to 2009. After graduating, he continued to study in New York. Alongside many shorts, he has written and directed full-length feature films and a documentary. In 2013, he participated in the goEast Competition with CONSTRUCTORS, returning in 2019 with THE GENTLE INDIFFERENCE OF THE WORLD, for which he was given the Award of the City of Wiesbaden for Best Director as well as the FIPRESCI Award for Best Fiction Feature.
