Three generations of female farmers under one roof. Anna is pregnant and thinking about castration. Katinka, who wears her bikini in the milking parlour, may not be able to become a farmer at all. But grandma’s tomatoes turned out better than ever this year. A summer spent on fading farms. Justine Bauer’s feature-film debut is not just a drama shot in dialect, it is also a compelling tale of a life lived close to animals and nature – and of a young female farmer searching for her own path between self-discovery and family tradition.
MILCH INS FEUER marks the acting debut of lead actress Karolin Nothacker and her siblings Sara, Anne and Johannes. The film was shot in Hohenlohe and the language spoken most frequently in the film is Hohenlohe German, an Upper German dialect that is strongly influenced by agriculture and often varies greatly from village to village.
Justine Bauer grew up on an ostrich farm in Germany. She studied fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig and then postgraduate film directing and screenwriting at KHM Cologne. MILCH INS FEUER is both her graduation film and her feature-film debut. She is currently working on her second feature film, DIE KÄLTE BRENNENDER FICHTEN, with the support of a research grant from Filmbüro NRW. She is also currently collaborating on a screenplay with Semih Korhan Güner for the latter’s debut film. Her dog Bruno also plays a part in MILCH INS FEUER.
