Melli has ended up homeless with her son. She is terrified of losing Ben, so no one is allowed to find out that they live in an encampment in the woods, an interim solution for Melli till she finds an apartment again. She has reason to believe things will get better, as she is set to start a new job as a stewardess in just a few days, while Ben continues to go to school. Franziska Hartmann is brilliant as a single mom fighting tooth and nail to stay above water and keep her dignity, until she must finally face the fact that the situation is hopeless. She can no longer hold off what she has tried with all her might to avoid: for the sake of her child she must make a grave decision…

Christina Ebelt was born in Filderstadt/Germany in 1979. She studied Screenwriting and Directing at the Vancouver Film School in Canada. After that, she worked in Berlin as an assistant director and specialist for script continuity for the production HOTTE IM PARADIES (2002) by Dominik Graf and as an assistant to Romuald Karmakar during post-production for DIE NACHT SINGT IHRE LIEDER (2004), among other roles. Next, she began studies at the Academy of Media Arts (KHM) in Cologne. In collaboration with Jan Bonny, she wrote the screenplay for the feature film GEGENÜBER (2007), which celebrated its premiere in Cannes in the “Quinzaine des Realisateurs” section. Among other works, she has directed the short films DER DAUERLÄUFER (2008) and WANNA BE (2009). STARS ABOVE US is her feature film debut.
