Concept & Realisation: Marc Weis, Martin De Mattia, Production: M+M
In the 3D-movie MAD MIETER the protagonist is a praying mantis living in a bourgeois furnished apartment, where it comes to a cruel end after an initially delicate approach. The work is freely inspired by REPULSION by Roman Polanski.
M+M stands for the artistic collaboration between Marc Weis, born in 1965, and Martin De Mattia, born in 1963. The artist duo has been working since the 1990s in the space between visual art, architecture and cinema. Among other things, their work focuses on multi-media, cinematic surround installations that interweave narrative fragments freely with one another without solid chronological arrangement. Their pieces have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. In addition to a working grant from Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn, they have received multiple awards, including the Botho Graef Award of the City of Jena in 1994, the “Junge Kunst” emerging artists prize of the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen in 1996 and the Bayerischer Kunstförderpreis in 1997. In addition, both artists teach at various art academies and universities.
