David, a boy in his 30s, overweight, homosexual and with a grappling fear of flying, regretfully returns to his native Argentina to attend his uncle’s funeral. There he will reconnect with his mother and his Jewish family, while embarking on a quest across Buenos Aires to quench his anxiety via driving lessons, cheap healthcare and trying to sleep with any man that shows him a little attention.
“Lethargic filmmaking in debut features is not at all uncommon and usually dissipates in subsequent films. Said’s emotional acuity, though, and unique vantage point make him a valuable new voice in cinema.” (SreenAnarchy, Ankit Jhunjhunwala)
“A film about ordinary people (…) They try to survive through a pain that will transform their lives forever. I am interested in exploring the world of ordinary people who leave gaps in simple families. Because we all deserve to be eternal for someone.” (Iair Said)
Iair Said was born in Buenos Aires/Argentina in 1988 and works as actor, director and casting director. In 2015, his short film PRESENT IMPERFECT was selected in the official competitions of the Cannes International Film Festival and the Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema (BAFICI). With his directorial debut, 9 VACCINES, he won “The Black Pearl Award” for Best Narrative Short Film at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, among others. MOST PEOPLE DIE ON SUNDAYS is his first feature film.
Filmography: 2012 9 VACCINES, 2015 PRESENT IMPERFECT, 2019 FLORA’S LIFE IS NO PIC-NIC (all short films), 2024 MOST PEOPLE DIE ON SUNDAYS
