This drama depicting two friends, Kena and Zike, who rebel against the patriarchal conventions in Kenya and dream of a self-determined future was banned in Kenya and celebrated as a great discovery in Cannes. The two women hold onto one another in spite of the conservative society that places obstacles in their path. When the two fall in love with one another, they are forced to choose between happiness and safety.

“Banned in its home country, this delicate love story breaks no new ground, but feels progressive nonetheless.” (IndieWire, Eric Kohn)
