Though temporarily separated, David and Nikki are still somehow a couple. David only lives a few houses down the street, back at his dad’s place. He picks up odd jobs, meets up with their four kids and tries to save what there is to save. And although both have agreed that it’s OK to see other people romantically, David has been raging inside since he learned Nikki has a lover. The epic, fulminant images cameraman Jiménez comes up with to depict the sort of toxic masculinity bubbling out in the boondocks have been edited with extreme precision by writer and director Robert Machoian himself. With THE KILLING OF TWO LOVERS, this auteur with roots in DIY punk culture has created a suspense-packed family melodrama that gets deep under the skin.
Robert Machoian, born in the small town of King City in California/USA and raised up in the DIY Punk culture, has been taking photographs his whole life and making films for well over a decade. His films have premiered at Sundance, South by Southwest and Tribeca Film Festival in the States and have screened at festivals around the world.
