Nico, German-Persian, emancipated and happy, is the most popular geriatric nurse for her clients. With her best friend Rosa, she enjoys the summer in Berlin. A racist attack tears the self-confident Nico from her self-determined everyday life. Waking up in the hospital, she realizes that she doesn’t seem to be a part of it after all. Plagued by scraps of memories of the attack, Nico isolates herself more and more.

Nico knows that it can’t go on like this and makes a decision: she gets help from Andy – the loud karate world champion, thereby regaining self-confidence. Because she is mingling with people again, Nico meets the Macedonian woman Ronny at a fair. Ronny recognizes Nico immediately. Where and why Nico will understand as the film progresses and she will have to ask herself how to deal with the anger and helplessness that the attack has created in her.

Eline Gehring, born in Haan/Germany in 1984, began her career in 2006 as a camerawoman and editor for German news coverage in Paris,
Prague, Kiev and Berlin. In 2013, she began studying directing at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB) and directed short films that premiered at international film festivals. NICO premiered in the feature film competition of the 42nd Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival in 2021.
