For exground filmfest, the current exhibition by Fluxus fellow Maja Smrekar has been expanded with works that address the festival theme from the perspective of non-human actors. The video I HUNT NATURE AND CULTURE HUNTS ME (2014) shows Smrekar’s performance with wolves and wolf-dog hybrids. In this work, Smrekar explores the emotional relationship between humans and dogs, referring to their co-evolution: survival is not secured by flight and expulsion, but by co-operation and tolerance. The film is complemented by a sculpture mourning the tragic loss of wildlife caused by the flood in Slovenia in 2023 – a symbol of the exploitation of the planet and marginalized living beings.
