John Cameron Mitchell, born 1963 in El Paso/USA, directed the film RABBIT HOLE (2010) starring Nicole Kidman (Academy Award nomination for Best Actress) for which he was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for best director. He directed, wrote and starred in the film HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (2001), for which he received the Best Director and Audience Awards at the Sundance Film Festival. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe as Best Actor. He was executive producer of the Jonathan Caouette’s documentary TARNATION (2004). His improv-based film SHORTBUS was released in 2006. The Broadway production of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH received the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical (2014) and in 2015 John was honored with a Special Tony Award for his return to the lead role.
