WEIRDOS tells the humorous story of two adolescent runaways, Kit and Alice back in the 70s. The film accompanies the two hitchhikers on a turbulent journey through the breathtaking landscape of the Canadian east coast, set to a superb 1970s soundtrack. While Kit wants to start a new life in his glamorous but unstable mother’s artist commune, Alice makes no bones about her longing for romance.

Bruce McDonald, born in Kingston/Canada in 1959, is a director known for his irreverent, eclectic style and his love of music and pop culture. Already his feature debut from 1989, ROADKILL, was screened within exground filmfest – as well as his later works HIGHWAY 61 (1991) and THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS (2007). He currently lives with his wife and their daughter in Toronto/Canada, enjoys Italian food and loves the Miles Davis album “Bitches Brew”.

This year, WEIRDOS won two Canadian Screen Awards: for best performance by an actress in a supporting role (Molly Parker) and for best original screenplay (Daniel MacIvor).
