Chuck has abandoned his son Franklin for years and has shown little interest in him. Now he desperately wants to get back in touch with him, but Franklin is not interested and blocks his father on all social media channels. So Chuck resorts to drastic measures: he pretends to be a pretty young waitress in order to establish an internet friendship with his son. But Franklin falls head over heels in love with the imaginary girlfriend and wants nothing more than to finally meet her in real life…
Morosini plays himself in the situation, because I LOVE MY DAD! tells a true story: Morosini’s father pretended to be someone else online in order to check in and be close with the son who had blocked him on social media. It’s such a bizarre concept, such a painfully sad move to be close to someone, that you have to laugh.
James Morosini, born in 1990, is an actor and filmmaker originally from Boston/USA. After his first micro-budget feature THREESOMETHING had found distribution in 2018, he wrote his award-winning script for I LOVE MY DAD! (Screencraft Winner 2020), which he directed and starred in opposite Patton Oswalt. I LOVE MY DAD! had its world premiere at the 2022 South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin/Texas. Furthermore, he has had major roles as an actor in AMERICAN HORROR STORY, FEUD, LETHAL WEAPON, and HBO’s THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS.
Filmography (selection): 2016 SINGLE MINDED (TV mini series), 2016 GAME NIGHT, 2018 ROXXY (both short films); THREESOMETHING; MORE, 2019 BLUSH (both short films), 2022 I LOVE MY DAD!
Awards (selection): Audience Award (Chicago Critics Film Festival, USA 2022), Grand Jury Award and Audience Award (South by Southwest Film Festival, Austin/USA 2022)
