THE WORST ONES, the feature debut film of Lise Akoka and Romane Gueret, opens on interviews with the youngsters who Flemish film director Gabriel has chosen to cast in his new film. That film, which we’re later told is called PISSING IN THE NORTH WIND, is a story about a pregnant teen and her younger brother living in poverty. And to cast the film, Gabriel is seeking non-professional actors, specifically youth from the Picasso project in Boulogne-Sur-Mer.

In the neighborhood people say that the film is only taking “the worst ones”, and so the film will not show the positive aspects of their environment, because it will only show kids who are hoodlums and bad seeds. But this courageous and fragile project will become a special experience between camera and deep relationships for all participants.

Romane Gueret studied Cinema at the Sorbonne in Paris. Lise Akoka is a trained actress. In 2014, they met during the casting of a feature film for which they auditioned young non-professional actors. In 2015, they co-directed the short film CHASSE ROYALE, awarded in several festivals. In 2018, they co-directed the documentary ALLEZ GARÇON! for the Hobbies collection, which was broadcast on Canal+ in 2019. In 2020, their web series TU PRÉFÉRES for Arte was selected for the Sundance Film Festival. Afterwards, they made their maiden feature film, THE WORST ONES, which was awarded at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival in the section “Un Certain Regard”.
