Hands that till the field and care for the forest. Furrowed faces, roaming dogs and chickens, the austere beauty of the landscape. Raul Domingues documents all of this with his mini-DV camera. His grandmother and neighbour enter the frame, only to disappear again. Here where a ray of sunlight becomes a protagonist, corn, potatoes and tabaco flourish, are harvested and processed with care, time seems to flow more slowly in a peculiar way.

STRIKING LAND is a cinematic portrait that shapes our perception of the world in a creative process, as fingers shape a piece of clay. At the same time, the shift in perspective from the anthropocentric opens a space for meditative reflection about the Anthropocene and its fatal impact on the climate of this planet.

Raul Domingues was born in Leiria/Portugal in 1991. After graduating in Sound and Image at the Caldas da Rainha School of Arts and Design he started working as a film editor in short and feature films. His films ALICE E DARLENE and FLOR AZUL have been screened in several festivals. STRIKING LAND is his second feature film.
