Jeanne has lived in a commune since she was two. She loves the farm and life outdoors with the other children. Her mom and dad live in urban communes and only rarely visit. Otto, who rules over the collective, has decreed that children should grow up without parents, since the nuclear family is, according to him, the root of all evil. He has also forbidden monogamous relationships. Only women have their own rooms. Every night, the men must search for another partner. When 14-year-old Jeanne falls in love with Jean (16), she violates Otto’s law: sex is permitted, but love is taboo. When Otto also proceeds to enter her room at night and touch her, Jeanne rebels – and the other children soon join her. Based on a true story.

Born in Munich/Germany in 1964, Christopher Roth, is a film director, artist and television producer. He studied at the University of Television and Film Munich from 1985 to 1992. Since 2017, he has taught “Storytelling in Architecture” in the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. In 2018, he created space-time.tv, a co-operative television platform. In 2021, he was among the curators of the German pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. His film BAADER won the Silver Bear jury prize at the 2002 Berlinale in the category “New Perspectives in Cinema”.
