In terrifying fashion, this documentary shows how far Trump and his enablers and henchmen have already undermined democracy in the USA. The focus is on librarians in Texas, Florida and beyond who are courageously standing up for freedom of expression and the right to read – and, in spite of threats and harassment, firmly resisting the attempts of the self-appointed protectors of children from “Moms for Freedom” to ban reading material from (school) libraries, especially that related to political minorities, racism and LGBTQia+ issues. A must-see for all vigilant proponents of democracy!

THE LIBRARIANS shows librarians as brave “first responders” in the fight for democracy and the rights of US citizens under the US Constitution’s First Amendment. Always guided by deeply democratic principles, they refuse to allow themselves to be intimidated by personal attacks and threats.

Kim A. Snyder is an New York-based Academy Award nominee and Peabody Award-winning director and producer whose latest feature, THE LIBRARIANS, premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.
