THE BEST SUMMER plunges audiences into the heart of the 1995 “Summersault” tour with the Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Pavement, Rancid, The Amps, and Bikini Kill as they travel across Australia and Southeast Asia. Shot entirely from Tamra Davis’s handheld POV camera, the film moves through backstage hallways, onto tour buses, into hotel rooms, and directly onto the stages themselves, creating an unusually intimate portrait of artists at a formative moment in their lives and careers.

Rediscovered nearly 30 years later, Davis’s raw footage captures not only explosive live performances, but candid conversations, fleeting friendships, and the chaotic energy of life on the road. Tamra Davis is a director of film, television, and music videos. She launched her career with over 100 music videos for artists ranging from NWA to Bette Midler, then moved into features with GUNCRAZY, which earned Drew Barrymore a Golden Globe nomination. So far, she has directed nine feature films including BILLY MADISON, HALF BAKED, and CROSSROADS. Her acclaimed documentary JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT: THE RADIANT CHILD premiered at Sundance, and she went on to direct Netflix’s 13: THE MUSICAl and Paramount+’s LARGER THAN LIFE: THE BOY BAND STORY. In television, she directed episodes of GREY’S ANATOMY, among others.
