In 1996, French filmmaker Sophie Toscan du Plantier was murdered in her vacation home near Cork. Suspicion quickly fell on British journalist Ian Bailey. But while a French court convicted him in absentia, he was never tried in Ireland. This is where RE-CREATION takes up the case, with a thought experiment in the style of 12 ANGRY MEN. How would a jury discuss the known facts, and what verdict would they reach? The evidence clearly points to the journalist’s guilt. Alas, one juror is not convinced and expresses doubts.

In their first collaboration, Jim Sheridan and David Merriman succeed in creating a thrilling reassessment of the case, which is still considered Ireland’s greatest legal mystery. Featuring an impressive performance from Vicky Krieps, who as “Juror #8” summons the courage to stand up to the overwhelming majority.

Jim Sheridan, born in 1949, is an Irish playwright, screenwriter, film director and producer. Over the course of his 40-year career, he has become one of Ireland’s most important film and theatre artists; his films have been nominated for 16 Oscars and 14 Golden Globes, including such well-known titles as MY LEFT FOOT, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, THE BOXER and IN AMERICA.
David Merriman is an award-winning writer, director and a frequent collaborator of Jim Sheridan’s. He wrote the scripts for RE-CREATION, KERRY BABIES, CLASS und THE STATE OF BEING HUMAN.
