A bizarre, tumultuous comedy from France: Rémi’s last breakup is still eating away at him something fierce – truth be told, he’s never really gotten over it. At the office, he’s already talking up his new girlfriend though, and his co-workers would love to meet her in person. Alas, that’s not as simple as it sounds, since Rémi has been withholding a crucial detail: Audrey, with whom he shares his table and bed, is just as fake as the artificial turf he sells.

Then the impossible strikes: when temporary worker Patricia is hired, Audrey somehow, inexplicably, becomes animate. The two women proceed to turn Rémi’s life completely upside down, especially as Audrey begins to develop her own will and emancipate herself from her doll-existence.

Sophie Beaulieu grew up in Lyon/France and New York. After studying at the École Normale Supérieure, she taught English and linguistics. However, she soon gave up teaching to write and perform in a trashy feminist show. She wrote the screenplay for a short film, which she also directed. After several small self-produced films, she directed the short films I DIDN’T SHOOT JESSE JAMES and SALEM, which were shown at several festivals. THE DOLL is her first feature film.

Filmography (selection): 2017 I DIDN’T SHOOT JESSE JAMES, 2021 SALEM (both short films), 2025 THE DOLL
