After yet another haven for self-determined, anarchic approaches to life gets attacked by the police, Nina and Djoul cruise off towards the sun in a converted truck. Though liberty and the wind tickle their noses, a couple fundamental questions gnaw at them: how can you live when the cops always end up throwing you out? Where are you supposed to sleep when even junkies end up shaking you down? Who can you trust when your own best girlfriend is ultimately willing to trade the freedom of the streets for a romance in the vineyards?
Perhaps by countering eviction with a massive party. Or teaming up with the thief and pulling off dirty deeds together. And yes, when it comes to friendships, time and distance do help, as does the ability to reach out again. LAZY GIRLS is an entertaining punk rock road movie from the French hinterland that finally finds all the answers!
Karim Dridi made his first short films as a child. In 1995, he directed his first two feature films, PIGALLE, in competition at the Venice Film Festival, and BYE-BYE, selected in the “Un Certain Regard” section at Cannes and awarded the “Prix de la Jeunesse”. In 1996, he made a documentary on Johannesburg, IMPRESSION D’AFRIQUE… DU SUD, and another on Ken Loach the following year. He shot CUBA FELIZ, a musical road movie selected at the “Directors’ Fortnight” in Cannes. In 2003, he shot FUREUR, selected at the Berlinale. In 2007, he directed and produced KHAMSA, selected at Locarno, followed by THE LAST FLIGHT with Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet.
Filmography (selection): 1995 PIGALLE, BYE-BYE, 2000 CUBA FELIZ, 2008 KHAMSA, 2009 THE LAST FLIGHT, 2023 REVIVRE, 2024 LAZY GIRLS
