Their beloved son is gone. Marianne and Petion live in Haiti and wait by their phone for a call from the US, where their son has gone to pursue the American dream.
Samuel Suffren is a Haitian director and producer. He made a trilogy of short films inspired by the story of his father: AGWE (2022) was screened at Locarno and won the Award for Best Diaspora Film at The Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) in Burkina Faso; DREAMS LIKE PAPER BOATS (2024) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and BLUE HEART (2025) was presented at Cannes’ Directors Fortnight. Currently, he is working on his first feature documentary, LÒTBÒ, and developing a feature fiction film, JE M’APPELLE NINA SHAKIRA.
