Day in and day out, a sparrow sees images of ostriches everywhere: on posters, in ads, and on its smartphone ‒ with their long necks, dazzling eyes and muscular legs. The little bird wants to be just like them.
Marie Kenov, born in Basel/Switzerland in 1990, now lives in Lucerne/Switzerland, where she works in the fields of graphic design, illustration and animation. She completed her bachelor’s degree in poster design and visual communication at the National Academy of Art in Sofia/Bulgaria in 2016 – and deepened her knowledge in moving image and film during a second study at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Her graduation film, SWEET NOTHING (co-direction: Joana Fischer), was shown at numerous festivals, including Annecy and Sundance Film Festivals. OSTRICH is her first short film as sole director.
