Inspired by true events, the film follows a pastor through a harsh winter in a small Texas town where his mission to help the homeless is faced with resistance by his congregation, exposing deep-seated prejudices and systemic failures. Co-written by Peter Brunner and Caleb Landry Jones, the film is rooted in real-life interviews and firsthand accounts of homeless individuals surviving on the streets. More than just a narrative about homelessness, the film is the result of years of direct collaboration with the homeless community – not just as subjects, but as partners and storytellers shaping the film with their lived experiences.

“DOWN THE ARM OF GOD” challenges the stigma suffocating people experiencing homelessness, who are viewed as personal failures, rather than as the victims of a systemic problem, of a society that would rather see them disappear for good.” (Muriel Del Don, Cineuropa)

Peter Brunner, born 1983 in Vienna/Austria, is a filmmaker and former student of Michael Haneke. In 2014, his debut MY BLIND HEART premiered at Slamdance and in competition at IFF Rotterdam. His English-language debut TO THE NIGHT, starring Caleb Landry Jones, was praised by “The Hollywood Reporter” as “a psychological acid trip of a movie”. After LUZIFER (2021), which won a Critics’ Prize at Locarno, he reunited with Jones for the co-written passion project DOWN THE ARM OF GOD.
