After a long absence, Caro travels back to Venezuela from Europe to claim an inheritance bequeathed to her by her late father. Her return causes other things to recur: dark memories, nervousness and unease. The jungle is not the only thing that has begun to lay claim to the decrepit estate surrounding the cacao plantation – former laborers have also taken up quarters there, and they don’t react especially graciously to Caro’s colonial demeanour or her concrete plans to sell the property. Sonia and her son in particular have every reason to resist her domineering manner and possessiveness. In the end, the noose tightens, inexorably.

Jorge Thielen Armand, born in 1990 in Caracas/Venezuela, is a film director, screenwriter and producer. He studied communications at Concordia University in Montreal, and later, with Rodrigo Michelangeli, founded the film production company La Faena Films. His first feature film, THE SOLITUDE, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival and received the Jury Prize in Biarritz and the Audience Award for Best Film at the Miami Film Festival. His second feature film, FORTITUDE, premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and has been screened at many other film festivals. In 2026, DEATH HAS NO MASTER premiered at the “Directors’ Fortnight” in Cannes.
