Murad lives in Berlin with his wife Leyla and their son. He and his younger brother Kerem grew up in Germany, after their father left Turkey many years ago and opened a restaurant in the capital. Their idyllic family dynamic, sustained by moderate prosperity, is threatened when a cell phone photo begins to circulate among the members of their religious community: it shows Kerem in an intimate moment – with another man. The family’s honour is immediately at stake. The old patriarch seeks aid from an esteemed imam, who in turn declares Kerem’s sexuality to be a sign of demonic possession.

In this film edited and co-produced by Jafar Panahi, Kida Khodr Ramadan shines in the role of the family man Murad, as he attempts to return everything to “normal”. The result is a deeply moving urban drama about cultural contradictions, religious pressure and self-discovery late in life.
