It is the summer of 1994, as Northern Ireland takes its first steps towards peace, and best friends Vinny and Jonty are desperate to escape their small-town life in conflict-torn Enniskillen (Skintown). Just as a ceasefire is announced heralding a brighter future, Vinny and Jonty execute a dangerous plan destined to spring them from Skintown before fate intervenes… After the night of their lives at “Kelly’s” and the post rave beach party they return to Skintown. With the euphoria of the rave now faded, Vinny makes a snap decision.
“A Northern Irish ‘Trainspotting’ set before the peace deal.” (Irish Independent)
“So don’t come to SKINTOWN for trenchant political commentary; come for the slangy jokes, the ’90s kitsch and the precise evocation of the love/hate relationship so many of us Irish have with the place that, however begrudgingly, we call home.” (Jessica Kiang, Variety)
Kieron J. Walsh, born in England in 1969, is a multi-award-winning director who has directed for both cinema and television. His latest feature film before SKINTOWN, THE RACER, premiered at SXSW in 2020. Previous features include IFTA-nominated WHEN BRENDAN MET TRUDY, which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival, and IFTA-nominated JUMP, which was selected for the same prestigious festival.
