An imaginative docu-fiction exploring the life of Chilean bandit Alberto Candia, who organised a spectacular robbery of Spanish Andalusia’s Cádiz Cathedral. Inspired by the rousing tales of his own grandfather, who travelled the world as a polyglot intellectual and gold smuggler, and drawing on letters and court records from Candia and other “lanzas internacionales”, Francisco Rodríguez Teare creates an outlandish legend, interweaving interviews, everyday observations and staged sequences in Chile’s Atacama Desert and Spain with all manner of high jinks into a myth revolving around greed and gold, interpretive authority and the legacy of colonialism.

Francisco Rodríguez Teare is an artist and filmmaker living between Chile and France with a moving image practice working predominantly with video and installation. Since 2015, he has been creating film and video works and exhibiting them internationally both in film festival circuits and contemporary art contexts. So far, his work has been presented at Film Society of Lincoln Center, Festival International de Cinéma Marseille, CPH:DOX, Courtisane, Doc Lisboa and Viennale, among others.
