Arco, a boy from the future, grows up high above the clouds in a world where humans can travel through time with the help of vibrant rainbow-coloured capes. However, for Arco such adventures are still forbidden at his age. Still, the boy doesn’t waste any time with the rules and is soon secretly flying headlong into the past. He lands in the year 2075, in a world attempting to cope in its own way with the worsening climate catastrophe.
Iris, a ten-year-old girl, tries to help him with his search for a way back home – beyond the limits of time. An undertaking not without its dangers, but a pleasant distraction in any case, as her absent parents are only present as holograms anyway, leaving her to grow up under the care of a humanoid household robot. Ugo Bienvenu and his team have created an adventurous vision of the future – their work was honoured with the César for Best Animated Film.
Ugo Bienvenu initially grew up in Chad, Guatemala and Mexico. At the age of 15, he returned to France with his family. During his time abroad, his parents regularly provided him with French comic books in order to solidify his relationship to his native country. He credits the colours of Guatemalan and Mexican culture, the omnipresent US-American advertisements there and DRAGONBALL Z as sources of inspiration for his artistic work.
Filmography (selection): 2006 JELLY SUNDAY, 2013 MAMAN, 2017 DOLLY.ZERO (all short films), 2025 ARCO
Awards (selection): César for Best Animated Film (Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, Paris/France 2026), European Film Award for Best Animated Film (European Film Academy, Berlin/Germany 2026)
