Five former military torturers of fairly advanced age received 100-year prison sentences at the foot of the Andes following the end of the dictatorship. However, their correctional facility is more reminiscent of a luxurious retirement home than a prison, and the power relationship between the grumpy inmates and the young guards is also quite inverted. The elderly “gentlemen” enjoy the fresh air on walks and can rely on the regular delivery of cherished luxury items. When an ill-considered interview given by of one member of the group results in the former intelligence officials and officers gradually losing their privileges, the mood becomes increasingly unpredictable. A quirky, vicious political parable about the way Chilean society has dealt with Pinochet’s henchmen and the trauma that they inflicted.

Felipe Carmona is a filmmaker and scriptwriter. Some of his work has been supported by the Chilean Film Promotion Fund. He directed three short films that were honoured with awards in Chile and abroad. Furthermore, he has taken part in Berlinale Talents Buenos Aires and received a Fundación Carolina fellowship in Madrid, where he worked on completing the script for his feature-film debut PRISON IN THE ANDES.
